Christmas time has never been fun for me. For many years, my mom worked and I don't even know where my dad was really. Having kids has forced me to really try to start to enjoy the holidays. This year, as I become closer to God and really start to count my blessings, this year was good.
This is the 2nd year that JP and I went to the Glendale Harley Skid Row Toy Run. It is a joint effort with the Fred Jordan Mission. There were over 1000 people waiting in line to receive a gift, (which for most would be their only one) and close to a 1000 motorcycle enthusiast with toys in tote. One family slept in a van while their mother stood in line, covered with a card board box to cover her from the rain. She just wanted to make sure they got SOMETHING for Christmas.
As the day progressed it was cool to see kids so grateful for a gift and others complaining because their were no more skateboards. I got so wrapped up in watching the kids, aftet a while I put down the camera and started passing out toys.
The Fred Jordan Mission feeds 1000 people a day, some days turning people away because they run out. They are always looking for volunteers and monetary donations. Check them out at www.FJM.org. It's the little people like us that make the biggest difference.
My goal for 2010 is to start incorporating video into my sessions...imovie isn't the best for some reason, but until I get a better program, bear with me and watch a little of the day. :)
Count your blessings daily...God Loves You!!
